Swipe
Thomas Leonard
Brief
~~~~~
!Swipe allows you to grab text from icons and then paste it somewhere
else.
Conditions
~~~~~~~~~~
This program is FREEWARE, so you can copy it and pass it around as much as
you like as long as you don't change anything.
There is no warranty, but please report any bugs you find.
Instructions
~~~~~~~~~~~~
To grab text from an icon (it doesn't have to be writeable) or a window's
title bar:
• Position the mouse pointer over the icon.
• Hold down Left-Alt and Left-Shift at the same time. A box will appear
under the pointer containing a copy of the icon's text.
• Now, drag with Select from the first char you want to the last.
or, double click on the word you want.
If the box says '(Adjust to paste)' then Swipe couldn't read the text.
To insert (paste) text:
• Position the caret where you want the text to go.
• Hold down Left-Alt and Left-Shift and click Adjust on the box
which appears.
or
• Use the paste option provided by the program you want to paste into.
Not all programs support this.
or
• Drag the text icon from the left end of the swipe box to any program
which can load text files.
Limits
~~~~~~
Icons can't contain more that 255 bytes of text.
If a border icon is used to group other icons together and is on top
of those icons then those icons cannot be accessed.
'Virtual' icons (like those in filer windows) cannot be used.
Doesn't do RAM fetches.
Can't paste to menus (use IcnClipBrd instead) because clicking Adjust
closes the menu!
Changing the keys
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Shift double-click on !Swipe and load !RunImage into StrongEd/Zap/Edit or
whatever.
2) Find the lines at the start:
HotKey1 = 76
HotKey2 = 94
3) Change these to the numbers of the keys you want.
You can find a complete list of key numbers in the StrongHelp manual:
OS -> OS -> Claim -> vector number -> EventV -> Event number
-> Key transition -> key number
For example:
Left Shift = 76
Left Alt = 94
Left Control = 59
4) Save the file and reload Swipe.
5) Put a comment at the start of this help file to say it has been changed.
This will remind you not to distribute it in its modified form and will
avoid confusion if you forget.
How to improve it (or any of my other programs)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Write to me with suggestions, money, bug reports, money, praise, money, or
just to tell me that you use the utility and can't find any bugs!
